Don’t Miss the Beauty

At first, I missed this tiny line of pearls.

Strung in the chain-link fence, my attention zoomed right past them to the mystical, fog-covered landscape beyond. Read the rest of this entry »

Remember

Posted by admin On January - 31 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

I took this picture while stuck in traffic I-10 in Arizona. Mangled cars blocked our path. Tired and hungry and cranky, we sat fuming at the situation and each other. The sunbeams pierced through the clouds and into my heart.

How could we complain? We were on vacation. No deadlines, no need to hurry.

And what about the people broken on the road ahead of us? Who were we to complain when our greatest troubles were rumbling stomachs and impatient hearts?

Remember.

Remember: You are not the center of the universe.

Remember: You are abundantly blessed.

Remember: Your complaints shift your focus from the Creator and on to yourself.

Remember, and give thanks in all things.

What Do You Need to Surrender?

Posted by admin On September - 21 - 2011 1 COMMENT

Whether or not you’re an Oprah Winfrey fan, this segment from the OWN Master Class is worth watching. In this clip, Oprah shares how she needed to totally to surrender… to let God make the decision even if that meant she wouldn’t like the outcome. She discovered a truth–something that each one of us can discover when we let God take the lead in our lives: God has a bigger plan for YOUR life than you could ever imagine. His possibilities are endless.

Dream big. Think big. Act with purpose. Live with passion. But remember who is in control.

I’d love to but I can’t… I’m just too busy.

Posted by admin On September - 10 - 2011 4 COMMENTS

What would you do if you weren’t too busy?

If you had a free hour… or even a free day, what would you do with it? You may imagine that you’d read all the books and magazines that have been collecting dust in your home. Or maybe you’d rent the entire season of your favorite show from Netflix and watch nine episodes in a row. Or maybe you’d sit still for just a few moments and enjoy that elusive quiet time—time to read your Bible, pray and to simply rest.
Or maybe you’d be like me and not know what to do with yourself.

Baby Steps Can Move Mountains

You may be an independent business owner, but that doesn’t mean you have to go it alone. In this post by guest blogger Grace Marshall, you’ll learn that team work and tiny efforts can yield huge results.

Are You Making the Most of Life?

Posted by admin On April - 5 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Do you remember how slowly time seemed to move when you were a child? Summer vacation took forever to arrive. You waited and waited until, finally, the last day of school had come and gone, and nothing stood between you and those long summer days.

But time itself has changed for me. I’m constantly amazed at how quickly the minutes pass now. Yesterday it was January 1… and now it’s April. How did that happen?!

It happens the way the sun sets… in a blink. I love sunrise and sunset photos. The color and changing light thrill me. (I’m thankful for digital cameras because I can click away with abandon–and not worry about using up a whole roll of film to capture just a few moments of the day.)

When I take time to watch the sunset, I am reminded to enjoy the minutes of life, to not look away even for a few seconds. I want to make the most of life! I want to enjoy the simple pleasure of:

* Reading with my child
* Hanging out with my teenage son
* Holding my husband’s hand
* Traveling to new places
* Expressing God’s love to others
* Living in the moment

It’s difficult to live in the moment when we’re pressured by deadlines. But I know that in a few seconds, my 1st grader will be graduating from high school, and my teenager will be off on his own adventures. So, in the midst of the chaos of life, I’m trying to focus on the things that really matter. I’m trying to keep time in perspective. Because that sun is tricky. It stays high in the sky all day… for hours and hours… and then in the briefest moment it is gone.

What are you doing to make the most of your moments?

Living the Crazy-Busy Life (part 2)

Posted by admin On February - 27 - 2011 1 COMMENT

Work the Systems

In part one of this series we looked at a few ways to get a handle on the chaos that can come from living and working in too many directions.  We talked about delegating and deleting what you can from your to-do lists.

But some things that make our lives crazy-busy and stressful aren’t tasks we have to do. Sometimes, it is worry and self-imposed burdens that weigh us down. These emotional shoulds can make us feel busy and exhausted, even if we’re not being particularly productive. Read the rest of this entry »

Living the Crazy-Busy Life (part 1)

Posted by admin On February - 19 - 2011 2 COMMENTS

Being a solopreneur can be exhilarating. You get to call the shots. You get to decide when and with whom you want to work. Perhaps best of all, when you want to take things in a new direction or change the way you work, there are no committee meetings or board members to block your path.

But being on your own can leave the door open for self-doubt and fear. Making changes can be scary—even if the changes are positive. Perhaps you can relate to one of the women you’ll meet in this series over the next few weeks. Sharon, the first in the series, is “crazy busy.” Marsha is desperate to find success. Kellie  has built a successful business, but she’s looking for something more. Each knows it’s time to make some changes and take her life in a new direction… it’s just a matter of figuring out which steps to take and having the courage to do so. Read the rest of this entry »

Do You Give Up Too Easily?

Posted by admin On January - 21 - 2011 3 COMMENTS

Do you give up too easily?

I like to think of myself as a pretty persistent person. But a couple of Sundays ago, my teenage son accused me of giving up too quickly.

It was one of those mornings when things weren’t going as usual. My younger son was sick, and my husband planned to stay home from church to take care of him. But I didn’t see any reason for my older son and I to stay home.

Now, it’s never easy to get a teenager out of bed. Heck, I don’t even like to get out of bed. But on Sundays we go to church. (Thank heavens there’s no more “early service.”)

Not surprisingly, when I knocked on my son’s door, there was  grunt, and a mumble I interpreted to mean “I don’t wanna get up.” Read the rest of this entry »
