Today can make your month… and this month can make your year.
Here we are at the beginning of a new year with 350 days (+/-) stretching before us. The future holds unlimited possibilities and opportunities, right?
Well… no. The future doesn’t hold the possibilities, today does. Today could be the day that paves the way to fabulous success. Or, today could be the day that sets you up for a frustrating fall at the end of the month—when you need just one more person on your team, just $100 more in sales, just one more “yes.”
Why is today so important? Because it’s during the middle of the month that we hit the doldrums. Here’s what Wikipedia says about the Doldrums, the area north of the equator where the winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge:
“The Doldrums—the region’s light, shifting, and sometimes completely absent winds—are notorious for trapping sailing ships for days (or even weeks) without enough wind to power their sails.”
The end of the month is a flurry of activity. Deadlines push us to work like mad. The beginning of the month is a time of celebration, goal setting and big dreams. But the middle of the month is when many people neglect their businesses. The mid-month doldrums—absent of the end-of-the-month rush and beyond the power-filled days at the beginning of the month—are when we get complacent.
So, today, make the call. Connect with your customers. Schedule appointments for this week. Hold the class, party or presentation. Share your opportunity.
If you’ve hit the doldrums, it’s time to start up the motor! Don’t wait until the end of the month. Don’t be driven by desperation and deadlines. Instead, find joy in your business today by working consistently throughout the month. Set yourself up for success, starting today.
Take action! What one income producing activity (think customer/prospect interaction, not paperwork) are you going to do every workday this week?

Actually, I lost a week here in Atlanta due to the snow storm. It was going to be my prospecting week. But in the end all will work out well. I had a little downtime when I least expected it, and I came up with a very workable and simple prospecting plan. It boils down to calling 50 prospective clients a day. Great blog. Glad I found you!
Glad it worked out, and really glad to hear you have a plan that works for you. Having the plan is the first step–working the plan will keep you moving toward your goal.
